Jon Cryer speaks out against gays
At a roundtable interview with several Emmy Award nominees, Jon Cryer made some bizarre remarks about gay actors. The conversation centered around TMZ and the lack of privacy actors now have to endure. Completely out of the blue, Jon Cryer said, “I always thought that guys that came out as gay should just say they’re bi.”
“Obviously I think it’s great that people can be who they are, but my point is just that when you’re watching people, I feel like if you impose a whole set of things you already know about them on the character, that’s not always a good thing,” he continued. “I don’t want to know that this guy isn’t into women so that when he’s kissing a woman on stage I’ve got to go, ‘Yeah, well, he’s not really into women.’ I don’t want to even think about that.”
What the hell?
Whether this was meant as a not-so-subtle attack against his fellow nominee Neil Patrick Harris, an openly gay man who plays a straight one on television, or just an attack against all gay actors, this has to rank as one of the most ridiculous comments ever made.
Mr. Cryer, most normal people don’t walk out of a movie because Hugh Jackman doesn’t actually have metallic claws buried in his forearms, Daniel Radcliffe cannot fly on a broom in real life, and Josh Duhamel isn’t part of a military force fighting transforming robots from outer space. Most people don’t turn off their television because Matthew Fox hasn’t spent the last six years on a mysterious island that rockets through time, America Ferrera isn’t a dowdy assistant working for a fashion magazine, and David Caruso doesn’t work for the CSI.
If you have a problem with gay actors playing straight characters – especially to the extent that you can’t watch them because you’re too busy thinking about how much they enjoy dick – then that’s a personal problem. Perhaps you’re a closeted gay man who can’t find the courage to be honest about who you are. Perhaps you’re a right-wing lunatic who thinks everyone should believe in a mythological creature who likes to rape virgins and kill innocent animals in world-wide floods. Or perhaps you’re an asshole who doesn’t know when to shut the hell up.
In America, we have the right to say what we think. So kudos to you. I don’t know why you thought it so important to clarify that you don’t like openly gay actors. I don’t know why you picked that particular forum to make your feelings clear. I don’t know why you would have such an ugly view of your fellow actors.
But none of that is important. As an American, you have the glorious right to free speech. As do I.
And with that freedom, I’d like to cordially invite you to fuck off. If you’ve got a problem with gay actors, then maybe you should go into another profession, like hosting the 700 Club or gunning down abortion doctors.
Just a thought.

Neil Patrick Harris is gay? I’ve got nothing against gay anything, but he’s kind of got a point. I love Ellen Degenerous, but I’d never find her portrayal of a straight woman the least bit believable or enjoyable and let’s be honest, Jack and Sawyer wouldn’t be nearly as enjoyable to watch on that island if we knew they’d rather be chasing each other instead of Kate. ; )

I don’t give a flying fuck if your hetro (i belong here by the way), homo, bi or whatever but the truth is… If your a good male/female actor than that’s what you are and your sexuality will not make you any worse or better.
Just look at Jonathan Slavin. The man is playing a stright scientist when he acts completely gay and you don’t believe Slavin acting one fucking beat. Guess what? That’s not because the man is gay, it’s because he is an awful actor!

Some things are just unnatural though for human beings..It’s okay for a person to love another, but having sex with the same gender can not be justified. It simply does not make any sense for humans. I think Jon Cryer’s just sticking to his character and there’s nothing wrong with that. He’s looking at what he believes about acting. Maybe he hates gays or maybe he just notices an actors flaws/strengths in a different way.. A woman would have a hard time acting like a man…some may act better than others, but obviously gender would make things easier for this example.. I think Cryer is just looking at the audience and what they believe. Will the audience buy into this character’s instinct?
