Because other languages are just too hard…
According to a new book about the 2008 election, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid once said that Barack Obama could be successful as a black Presidential candidate because he was “light-skinned” and didn’t speak with a “Negro dialect”.
Senator Reid was one of the first people to encourage Obama to run for President, and while his remarks might rightfully seem racist to some, they were intended as an honest evaluation of how race might affect voters.
Nevertheless, Senator Reid has apologized several times for the remarks, realizing they could easily be construed as offensive. President Obama, along with numerous prominent African-American officials, including NAACP Chairman Julian Bond and Attorney General Eric Holder, have stood by Reid, recognizing his words were not the result of prejudice or ignorance.
The fact remains that Senator Reid could have stated his observation in a far less offensive way, or better yet, not said anything at all. But his intentions – and enthusiasm for Obama as a candidate – were sincere.
Of course, the Republicans are having a field day with it. In what has to be one of the most ludicrous political denouncements in recent history, Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele has called for Reid to step down. “Racism and racist conversations have no place today in America,” he stated just days after using the phrase “honest Injun” on FOX news, a phrase that is considered highly inflammatory by some. Evidently, Republicans only object to “racist” terms if opponents use them.
To make matters worse, Republicans are comparing Senator Reid to Senator Trent Lott in a bizarre gambit that is certain to blow up in their faces. Senator Reid was encouraged that a black Presidential candidate could actually be a possibility. Senator Lott, on the other hand, praised the call for nationwide segregation, saying that “if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn’t have had all these problems over the years, either.”
Not exactly a great comparison. And it just recalls all the times Republicans have actively worked against racial civil rights. It’s hard to believe they’re indignant over the use of “Negro” when it’s easy to imagine the kind of words they normally use to describe black people.
It’s not unexpected. History has taught us that politicians from all parties live to disparage each other. But it would be nice if, just once, Republicans would rise from the gutters and act like civilized human beings that actually cared about others.
But then again, I guess that’s like waiting to see elephants fly.
Just a reminder. While President Obama is in China, brave Americans are still getting booted out of the military for being (gasp!) gay.
I have to say upfront that while I don’t watch Fox News (I only get basic cable because I’m not much of a television watcher unless American Idol is on), I do read their website. I understand it has a very conservative, anti-Democrat slant, but they often do a better job of discussing non-political stories and events than CNN and MSNBC. In my experience, their articles are more in-depth and give more details than their rival websites.
And as a somewhat intelligent human being, I’m smart enough to know when I’m being manipulated and when I’m being given facts. Although I think it’s wise for President Obama’s staff to avoid the network (like President Bush’s staff avoided the very liberal, anti-Republican MSNBC), claiming that Fox News isn’t a legitimate source of information is wrong.
Still, I couldn’t help chuckling over this piece. It seems that Sean Hannity “borrowed” footage from a two-month-old event to make the event he was currently reporting on seem bigger than it actually was. In the interest of fairness, however, I do believe Hannity has a talk show on the Fox News network, so it’s not Fox being deceptive, it’s Sean Hannity.

It seems counterintuitive. Republicans are almost as friendly to gays and lesbians as those lions who cheerfully welcomed Christians into the arena back in the day. Democrats are the ones promising change, hope, equality for all minorities, so if we’re going to donate money and invest in America’s future, we should contribute to the DNC, right?
Wrong.
I will never allow myself to be fooled again like I was fooled by Barack Obama. President Obama speaks “awful purty”, if you know what I mean, but his words are meaningless. Obama didn’t say a single word about the recent battle for marriage equality in Maine. Not one damn word. If he’s a “fierce advocate” for gays and lesbians, then I’m the spitting image of Robert Pattinson (only with clean hair).
Politicians don’t seem to understand one very simple rule: if you don’t stand up for your constituents, they won’t stand up for you.
Let me put this as simply as possible. Democrats think that most gays (and other minorities) will vote for them because the alternative is worse. But the truth is, there are a lot of people who – given a choice between two evils – will always choose neither.
This is the heart-breaking tragedy of someone who died a horrible death and wasn’t Glenn Beck:
It had to happen. Here’s the illustrated story behind the greatest conspiracy in the history of the United States of America:
Once again, God is showing his anger at anti-gay activists who use His name as an excuse to promote an agenda of hatred and intimidation.
First, he guided Hurricane Bill away from Massachusetts, the first of the United States to legalize same-gender marriage. Then he allowed Hurricane Bill to cause massive waves that attacked Maine, who’s own same-gender marriage laws are being ruthlessly attacked by demonic groups like the Catholics and the National Organization for Marriage (which actually opposes marriage equality).
How many times does God have to show his anger before these ruthless bigots learn to respect ALL of God’s creation, not just the ones who fit in with their warped moral system? How many more people have to die before we pay attention to God’s many warnings and legalize equality and love for all his children?
I have never cared for Barney Frank. I think he’s an asshole to be honest.
And then I saw this and changed my mind completely.
Can someone please explain to me at what point during the Holocaust did the Nazis try to make health care available for all citizens?
Poor President Obama.
I may not be his biggest fan at the moment. After all, I remember when he invited Donnie McClurkin to campaign for him (McClurkin is an “ex-gay” who preaches that homosexuality is repugnant to his god). I remember when he invited Rick Warren to speak the invocation at his inauguration ceremony (Warren actively campaigned for Prop 8, which stripped Californian couples of their right to marry if they were same-gendered).
Obama was for same-sex marriage as a Senator but then mysteriously opposed it once he became a Presidential candidate. He has condoned the termination of hundreds of military troops based on their sexual orientation and his administration has actively supported both the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy and the Defense of Marriage Act that legalizes discrimination against gays and lesbians. So no, I’m not his biggest supporter.
But this birther shit is getting way past the point of ridiculous.
According to World Net Daily, the site that’s become the online equivalent of the Weekly World News tabloid, a birth certificate showing Barack was born in Kenya has suddenly been found. It was submitted anonymously (of course), and the WND states, “The new document released by Taitz bears none of the obvious traits of a hoax.”
Because we can trust a website that runs an average of 8 stories a day purporting to prove that Barack Obama isn’t a naturalized citizen.
But that’s not enough. No, not only is President Obama at the center of a conspiracy that would have had to span five decades and countless public and private organizations. He is also the main star of the Book of Revelation (for those not up on current mythology, that would be the Biblical anti-Christ that inspired “The Omen” and several sequels and bad remakes).
That’s right, according to one trusted source (an anonymous man on YouTube), Luke 10:18 has Jesus saying, “I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.”
Now bear with me, because this gets a little confusing. According to anonymous man (codenamed ppsimmons), lightning in Hebrew is spelled Baraq. Ignoring the words “fall” and “from” and the entire context of the phrase, “heaven” in Hebrew translates as, well, “hashamayim”. But if Jesus REALLY meant to say Satan was lightning from the HEIGHTS (or more specifically, “lightning heights”), well, heights in Hebrew is Bamah. So Jesus may very well have said, I beheld Satan as Baraq fall from Bamah, which obviously proves President Obama is the anti-Christ that will kill all the right-wing fundamentalists and feed on the blood of their babies.
Who wants to bet Lou Dobbs won’t be questioning the possibility that Obama and his hordes of demons will be enslaving all mankind within the next 2-3 weeks?
Stay tuned next week when President Obama is revealed to be a sentient cyborg programmed to kill everyone to insure that SkyNet is launched successfully in 2013.
